To organize seminars and guidance workshops to inform students about the emerging professional trends and events, job profiles, leadership roles, entrepreneurship, market needs, risks and implementation of national socio-economic policies and to impart training in soft skills. To promote discipline, healthy outlook and positive attitudes towards the national integration and removal of narrow provincial preferences and prejudices.
Planning Commission
Secondary Education is a crucial stage in the educational hierarchy as it prepares the students for higher education and also for the world of work. Classes IX and X constitute the secondary stage, whereas classes XI and XII are designated as the higher secondary stage. The normal age group of the children in secondary classes is 14-16 whereas it is 16-18 for higher secondary classes. The rigour of the secondary and higher secondary stage, enables Indian students to compete successfully for education and for jobs globally. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to strengthen this stage by providing greater access and also by improving qualityin a significant way.
Apprentices Act of 1961
Under the Apprentices Act of 1961, the employers covered under the Act are obliged to take a certain number of apprentices as per the specified ratio and provide training facilities in accordance with the prescribed circular in various designated trades. There are 136 designated trades. 217 industries of various categories have been specified to train apprentices, the number of apprentices undergoing training varies from one year to four years depending upon the designated trade. The minimum educational qualification for entering the trade varies from a pass in Std. V to H.S.C
Training In Industry Programmes
A number of industrial and business organisations, large and medium, provide organised training for their employees. The type of training varies depending upon the organisation and its needs. The training may be of the informal learning type of the type of organised instructional programme with in the plant under the supervision of the personnel department or of a special education and training division. As a general rule, the training confined to the acquisition of occupational knowledge and competences needed to increase productivity in the occupation concerned.
Some programmes cater to providing related information and some instruction of a general education nature. Some are designed to train and retrain employees in specialised areas of occupations. The programmes include apprenticeship and pre-service job training, On-the-job the training and supervisory training.
A good proportion of the present work force is trained as skilled workers, operators and technicians through the system of training-in-industry. Thought limited in scope and application, the training system can provide much needed occupational knowledge and skills extending beyond the normal institutional system of vocational education and training.
